A/N: Fairly short chapter.

The darkness was where he belonged; the chill of the night air; the sky pocked with stars. Beyond the city, way off in the distant hills, the children of the night howled in unison. He echoed their mournful cries; his voice hauntingly beautiful, like a chord struck by a heavenly choir.  Sometimes the wolves answered him back; he smiled when they did; grin filled with sharpened teeth and fangs; they gleamed in the moonlight.

His eyes glowed yellow; they shown like a beacon in the night air thick and black as ink.  He looked out across the city; perched high above the world upon the tallest spire of a mighty cathedral.  Claws grasped the head of a carved gargoyle; the sculpture so closely resembling his own appearance that he often wished it would come to life.

Bats flitted around him and he smiled once more.  They were his constant companions.  While he was in their company, he would always laugh. He looked up at the full moon and breathed deep.  A scent wafted up to his nostrils; the smell of blood.  His stomach growled; it was time to feed.

He howled out into the night air and leapt off of the spire, his bat-like wings extended; long tail trailing out behind him.  The scent grew stronger; his superior senses guiding him until his prey was visible from the air.  He loved the thrill of the hunt; it was exhilarating.  What could be greater than flying through the night air in search of one’s next meal?

His prey came into view; he narrowed his yellow eyes and fixated on the hapless creature.  He banked to the left and commenced his dive; the air currents so strong that they propelled him forward. He smiled and reveled in the joy that killing gave him.  The intense pounding of his heart made him shiver as razor sharp talons dug into flesh.  He cried out in triumph as he flew away; his victim barely a burden.

Back at the safety of his sanctuary; he gorged himself on human flesh.  But he was not a glutton.  He shared his meal with his friends; a few stray rats and ravens who dared to rip off pieces of meat and scurry away.

With his belly full, he grasped the remains of the carcass and flew off once more; disposing the body conveniently in the city zoo where the remains could be enjoyed by another man eater, a pregnant female tiger the zookeeper’s called Chandra.  He nudged the carcass her way; the tigress rubbing her warm, soft body against his torso.  She purred as he scratched her head; their meetings brief and bittersweet as his arrival always made the zoo animals wake; their voices loud and alarming.

“They always spoil our fun, don’t they Chandra?”

The tigress purred as she gnawed upon bone; her companion smiling.

“It’s good, isn’t it?”

He patted her back and sighed deeply.

“I’ve got to go Chandra.  They’ll be coming soon.  Those pesky monkeys are always waking up the zookeepers.  I’ll be back to see those babies when they’re born.  Take care now.”

He leapt up once more into the sky; giddy in his triumph he flew as high as he could; his sleek body making a silhouette against the blood red moon.  He laughed in a high pitched voice uncharacteristic for a creature of his kind; a happy and joyful laugh that hid his true feelings.

He was lonely.

Perched once more upon his spire; he dreamed of things he yearned for; freedom to roam wherever and whenever he pleased.  But most of all, he yearned for companionship; he yearned for love.  Somewhere, out there, there was another creature of the night; another lost soul traveling the same dark and dismal road.

“Damn it, Junsu,” he cursed himself.

He pressed his clawed hand to his chest.  He sat there in the dark feeling his blood pumping fast; the sound echoing in his head  with every forceful beat of his heart.  He was alive and yet he felt as if a part of him was missing. He cried out; this time in pain as a talon dug into his flesh; blood escaping from the wound and trickling down his torso.  Wings encircled his shivering body; tears falling from his yellow eyes.  The creature spoke; his voice a barely audible whisper.

“My heart is empty.”

I finally got around to reading this.
Junsu's a werewolf, right? And did he just killed a human for dinner? I wasn't too sure about that part.
So excited for the rest of this!

He's not a werewolf; they don't fly. He's more like a gargoyle. He kind of looks like this drawing:

This is not my drawing; please don't copy and share. Thanks.

I went looking for a gargoyle pic. Traditionally, they were pretty ugly. I was lucky to find this. Just an aside, I kind of picture Yoochun's demon from P.R.O.U.D. almost looking like this sketch, except with normal feet and no tail.
